We are promoting energy communities by allocating them ten municipal roofs

New step in the procedure for the allocation of ten municipal roofs where photovoltaic installations for shared self-consumption are to be placed. This is a pioneering initiative that contributes to the city's energy transition and fulfils one of the goals of the Climate Plan: to promote energy communities and shared self-consumption by improving the guidance, grants and support for the installation of photovoltaic panels.

The roofs chosen are located in all the districts to pave the way for social-community participation throughout the entire city. They were chosen through exhaustive technical work spearheaded by the Barcelona Energy Agency to guarantee their feasibility.

They include the following locations:

  • Ciutat Vella: Barceloneta Civic Centre
  • L’Eixample: Sant Antoni Space for Older People
  • Sants-Montjuïc: Font de la Guatlla Civic Centre
  • Les Corts: Montserrat Abelló Library– Les Corts Fab Lab
  • Sarrià-Sant Gervasi: Sant Gervasi Social Services Centre
  • Gràcia: EBM L’Enxaneta
  • Horta-Guinardó: Casa Groga Civic Centre
  • Nou Barris: Ateneu Popular Nou Barris (cultural association)
  • Sant Andreu: Baró de Viver Civic Centre
  • Sant Martí: Parc del Clot Senior Citizens Centre

The allocations will enable photovoltaic installations for shared self-consumption among the members of an energy community to be built, used and maintained. In addition to providing these spaces, City Council will also supply all the technical information and offer support and guidance for the development, legalisation and implementation of the installations.

The goal is to foster the creation and consolidation of these initiatives in all the city's districts and to increase local renewable energy production. The overarching goal is to lower the use of technologies that emit CO2, the most efficient and profitable way to achieve carbon neutrality.

The tender process for the allocation of the ten roofs was published in the BOPB of 21 September and the deadline to submit bids is 4 November.

Likewise, with the goal of encouraging energy self-consumption and ensuring that all city residents can participate, a new shared self-consumption service was recently launched in two municipal photovoltaic installations: the Alfons Comín pergola and the Ronda de Dalt pergola. In this case, City Council is in charge of installation and maintenance and shares the energy with users by charging a public rate. Additionally, it offers them advice on the rational, efficient use of shared energy with information sessions and personalised guidance.
