New canopy at Parc de les Tretze Roses starts producing energy

The new solar canopy at Parc de les Tretze Roses, in the La Marina del Prat Vermell neighbourhood of Sants-Montjuïc, is now up and running. As well as producing clean energy, the installation has created a new space with shade, seating and more greenery for local residents to enjoy.

The canopy is topped with 80 solar panels capable of generating around 31,600 kWh a year, roughly equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of 14 homes. The clean energy it produces will be shared between several municipal facilities in the neighbourhood, including Espai de Gent Gran El Polvorí and Casal de Barri La Vinya.

The structure stands at the junction of Carrer de Cal Cisó and Carrer de Conesa in Parc de les Tretze Roses, which opened two years ago. The area beneath the canopy now provides a new climate shelter featuring a large shaded seating area, benches and planted beds.

The project is another step towards bringing more renewable energy into Barcelona’s public spaces. It also reflects the City Council’s policy of incorporating renewable energy systems into new developments and building projects, helping make Barcelona more resilient to climate change.
